Radial Nerve Glide

Nerve glides are gentle stretches to help nerves move freely through the arm. They can help to reduce pain and improve range of motion.

Instructions:

  • Move slowly and gently! Going too fast or aggressively can cause more pain or tingling.
  • With each step, the nerve is stretched more. Continue completing the steps until you feel numbness and tingling. Stop at that step.
  • Complete 3 times each day.

Steps to complete a radial nerve glide:

1.  With your arm hanging at your side, face your palm behind you. 2.  Drop your shoulder.
3.  Bend your wrist so your palm faces towards the ceiling and your fingers point behind you. 4.  With your elbow straight, turn your arm so your fingers point away from your body.
5.  Bend your head away from the arm you are stretching. 6.  Lift your arm up and away from your body, backwards and in a diagonal.
7.  Hold your last position for 5 seconds, slowly release and return to starting position.
8.  Repeat 10 times.

It is normal to have tingling when performing the nerve glide, but this should go away quickly. If the pain or tingling continues after the exercise, stop doing the stretches and talk to your provider or therapist.
